Can Anyone Develop Their Intuition? A Teacher’s Honest Answer

One of the questions I’m asked most often, especially by students who are just starting out, is:
“Do you have to be born psychic, or can anyone develop their intuition?”
As someone who has spent more than 25 years working as a psychic medium, healer, and spiritual teacher, my honest answer is this:
Most people are far more intuitive than they realize—and with the right guidance and practice, you can absolutely develop your intuitive abilities.
Let’s talk about what that really means.
Intuition Is Natural (But Often Ignored)
Think about times in your life when:
· You had a strong feeling about a person or situation, and later it turned out to be true.
· You suddenly thought of someone, and they called or messaged you shortly after.
· You walked into a room and could “feel” the atmosphere without anyone saying a word.
These are everyday examples of intuition at work.
From my perspective, intuition is a natural human sense—just like sight or hearing. Some people are born more sensitive, just as some are naturally gifted at music or athletics, but that doesn’t mean the rest of us can’t learn and improve.
The real challenge is that we’re often taught to ignore or doubt our inner knowing.
The Biggest Block: “It’s Just My Imagination”
One of the most common fears I hear from students is:
“What if I’m just making it up?”
This is such an important question, and it’s one I struggled with myself early on.
Here’s the truth:
Intuitive information often arrives in the same “place” as imagination—through images, feelings, thoughts, and impressions.
The difference is in the quality of the experience: intuitive messages tend to be clear, neutral, and persistent, while fear-based thoughts feel anxious, repetitive, and heavy.
Learning to tell the difference is a skill, and like any skill, it gets easier with practice.
In my trainings, we don’t pretend that doubt doesn’t exist. Instead, we work with it. We create safe, structured exercises where you can test your impressions and receive feedback, which gradually builds trust in your own inner guidance.
Can Anyone Become a Professional Psychic or Medium?
Another version of this question is:
“Can anyone do what you do?”
I believe:
· Most people can learn to access and trust their intuition in a meaningful way.
· Many can learn to give accurate, helpful readings for others.
· A smaller number will feel called to do this work professionally, and that path requires not just ability, but also ethics, emotional maturity, and a commitment to ongoing learning.
You don’t have to know where you’ll end up when you begin. Some students come to intuitive training simply to make better decisions, feel more connected spiritually, or support their healing journey. Others discover along the way that they are called to serve others as readers, healers, or spiritual coaches.
Both paths are valid and valuable.
What Actually Helps Intuition Grow?
In my experience, there are a few key ingredients that support intuitive development:
1. A grounded spiritual practice
Regular meditation, breathwork, or energy practices help quiet the mind and make it easier to notice subtle impressions. This is where guided meditations and hypnosis recordings can be powerful tools—they help you access deeper states of awareness safely.
2. Clear, ethical guidance
Working with a teacher who understands both the spiritual and psychological aspects of this work can save you years of confusion. My background in metaphysical science, clinical hypnosis, Reiki, and trauma-informed methods shapes the way I teach: safety, boundaries, and ethics come first.
3. Safe practice with feedback
Intuition grows when you use it. Structured exercises, practice readings, and supportive communities allow you to test your impressions and see where you’re accurate, where you’re projecting, and how your intuitive language works.
4. Emotional healing and self-awareness
The clearer you are within yourself, the clearer your intuition becomes. That’s why inner healing—whether through energy work, hypnosis, or other modalities—is such an important part of spiritual development.
What If You’re Afraid of “Opening Up”?
Many sensitive people are drawn to intuitive work but also feel afraid:
· Afraid of attracting negative energy.
· Afraid of what they might see or feel.
· Afraid of being judged by family, friends, or their own belief systems.
These fears are understandable, and they don’t disqualify you from this path.
In my trainings, we address:
Grounding and protection: how to stay rooted and safe while working with energy.
Boundaries: how to choose when and how you open your intuitive channels, rather than feeling overwhelmed all the time.
Ethics and discernment: how to recognize what is truly intuitive guidance versus fear, fantasy, or wishful thinking.
You are always in charge of your own spiritual development. Developing your intuition doesn’t mean losing control; it means gaining a deeper, wiser relationship with yourself and the world around you.
So… Can You Develop Your Intuition?
If you feel drawn to this work—if something in you lights up when you think about intuition, energy, or spiritual connection—then yes, I believe you can develop your intuitive abilities.
You don’t need to be “perfect,” fearless, or already confident. You simply need:
· Curiosity
· Willingness to practice
· Respect for yourself and others
· A safe, supportive structure to grow within
That’s exactly why I created Enlightened Academy: to offer intuitive and spiritual training, hypnosis, and meditation resources that are grounded, ethical, and accessible—whether you’re just beginning or ready to deepen an existing gift.
Your Next Step
If you’re feeling that familiar nudge—that sense of “this is for me”—I encourage you to honour it.
You might start by:
· Setting aside a few minutes each day to sit in quiet and notice what you feel.
· Using a guided meditation or hypnosis MP3 to help you relax and tune in.
· Exploring a beginner-friendly training that gives you structure, support, and community.
Wherever you are on your path, your intuition is already speaking to you. My role is simply to help you hear it more clearly.
